In addition to translation, I provide proofreading and editing services.
My clients have included International Finance Corporation (World Bank Group), translation agencies, and Oxford University Press.
Proofreading entails checking the final draft of a text and correcting any misspellings and/or typographical mistakes. Proofreading of translations is performed independently of the source-language text.
Editing, also referred to as revision, is a more in-depth process. The first stage when editing (revising) a translation is to compare the translated text against the original text in order to identify and remedy any omissions and mistranslations. In the second stage, the editor “polishes” the text to ensure that it adheres to all the conventions of written English, focusing on issues such as grammar, word choice, terminology, structure and style. The specific tasks to be performed by an editor will depend on the client's individual requirements.
